When you extract pages from a PDF, most tools strip out the bookmarks (table of contents). TorReader PDF preserves the bookmarks that reference the extracted pages — so the output file still has a usable outline.
Why bookmarks get lost
PDF bookmarks reference pages by object ID. When you extract pages into a new file, the object IDs change. Most tools don't remap the bookmark destinations, so the links break and the bookmarks disappear. TorReader PDF uses QPDF's foreign-object copy mechanism to remap destinations correctly.
How to extract pages in TorReader PDF
- Step 1: Open your PDF in TorReader PDF
- Step 2: In the Thumbnails sidebar, Ctrl+click or Shift+click to select the pages you want
- Step 3: Right-click the selection → "Extract N Pages to New File…"
- Step 4: Choose a save location — done
You can also multi-select from the Bookmarks tab to extract all pages related to a section of the document.
What gets preserved
TorReader PDF copies all top-level bookmarks whose destination pages were included in the extraction. The bookmark chain is re-stitched in order, so the output has a clean, correct table of contents.
